But I can discuss their faults if you were really interested, being Molo, you're not interested, I already know this, so I know that responding (as I am, right here and now ) is a 'waste of effort'. I've had a number of mouses/mice over the years. Trains, trams, cellular phones, aircraft, sausages, chairs, beetles, confetti, audio equipment, desks, hair-dryers, vacuum cleaners, reading glasses, desktop computers, (several thousand other objects elided) and nasal hair. Now do that very same comparison with bottles of soda. On the surface, I agree with your main point of view - mouses are best when they just work, and a cheap mouse that works is (obviously) better than a hilariously expensive mouse which works. The most durable, problem-free mice I've owned have all been generic OEM optical scroll-wheel mice with no extra features or buttons or drivers.Īh Molo, how true to form you are. The scroll-wheel double-click thing is not getting any better (clicking a link and getting four tabs fire up to the same page, that's -ugh-)Īs a rule, any kind of "gaming" peripheral is overpriced junk.Īnd mice in particular fall into the "simpler is better" category. Other than those two problems, and the eye-watering initial cost ($160 new, for a mouse? you gotta be fucking joking), it seems to be a well built device, certainly it's solid with it's steel base, and I've put -all- the weighted doodads onto it, so it has a certain heft to it. I haven't done any gaming with it yet (Brainsbreaker Jigsaws doesn't count as gaming), so I can't give any report one way or the other on it's effectiveness. My brother says it was a 'little bit sensitive' when he had it, but it's ridiculously sensitive for me (fat/pudgy finger syndrome?). Holding the wheel down, I can generate three, sometimes four clicks (and when I'm pressing on a link in Firefox, that means up to FOUR tabs open up when I let go of the middle button).

If I click for a few milliseconds too much, then it sends a middle-click-up/middle-click-down again. The scroll-wheel 'middle click' is incredibly sensitive. I can't see any option in the list of 'action icons' that would equate to mouse-side-scroll. I assigned Volume + / Volume - to the thumbwheel, an in a Browser, it actually does volume up/down. I just want the fucking thing to act as a SIDESCROLL, like my old Erazer mouse, which had a logitech-style 'tilt the scroll wheel sideways to scroll' option.

Using the MadCatz Profiler software you can assign actions to it (keypress, or volume adjustment etc). The stupidity of the thumbwheel "sidescroll" thing. long story there), but it has some quirks, some of them very well documented, others less so. It works (after I plugged it into a second USB port.

My brother decided his R.A.T.9 was a waste of space and offered it to anyone else for 'half price' $80, so I bought it.
